Devon Alexander vows to win against Lucas Matthysse – Boxing news
The American professional boxer, Devon ‘Alexander the Great’ Alexander promised his fans to win his upcoming bout against the Argentinean professional boxer, Lucas Martin Matthysse.
The two fighters will be face to face in their 12-round competitive bout on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Family Arena in Saint Charles, Missouri.
The former WBC and IBF Light Welterweight champion, Alexander faced the first ever loss of his career when he lost the 10-round points decision against the current WBC and WBO World Light Welterweight Champion, Timothy ‘Desert Storm’ Bradley in January 2011.
The 27-year-old, Bradley won the WBC Light Welterweight title in the process. Because of accidental head-butts between the fighters, the fight was called off by the referee.
Alexander was originally scheduled to face number one contender, Kaizer Mabuza but he went against Bradley. As a result, he was stripped off his IBF Light Welterweight Title.
According to many boxing observers and critics, Alexander did not perform wholeheartedly or at his level best against Bradley. However, now he is very keen and focussed about his bout against Matthysse. Alexander wants to prove that he is not a loser.
Alexander said, “I want to show people why I was considered one of the best at 140 lbs. I want those people who believed in me to know they were not wrong. I am one of the most capable and dangerous fighters in the division.”
There is no denying the fact that he is now going to face an even tougher contender this time than Bradley but he is very hopeful to win this bout. Alexander knows he has to continue fighting going through the pain. He should not try to stop the fight in
any case as he did against Bradley.
Alexander should not try to underestimate his opponent and should come up with an even better fight plan to the ring. Matthysse is a very quick puncher and the holder of an excellent chin. It will not be an easy task to take the bout away from him.
Hopefully, the fight will be interesting and fascinating to watch. Let’s see how it goes.
