Devon Alexander wins over Maidana to dominate the junior welterweight division – Boxing News
Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana went head to head with each other on Saturday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Alexander clearly dominated the fight by winning almost all rounds. Devon just lost one round on one scorecard, but overall he
dominated Marcos throughout the fight.
Alexander had put a stop to all the doubts regarding his fight skills analysts were coming up with. While most of them thought Marcos will be the better man, Alexander took the opportunity to prove he can fight. After the fight, in the post press conference,
Alexander said, “I believed in my skills.” Later on, when he was asked about why he chose to move up to 147 pounds, he said, “That’s why we moved up to 147 pounds. I felt very strong at this weight.”
After the fight, Alexander had a major cut over his eye, for which he said, “I learned against Bradley that you’re going to get cut but you have to fight through it.”
For some reason, Marcos Maidana was not present at the post-bout conference. Alexander’s trainer and manager Kevin Cunningham was asked about Devon’s upcoming opponent on which he replied, “The winner of the Ortiz-Berto rematch makes sense. We’re looking
for big fights but we need to get with Robert Diaz [a matchmaker for Golden Boy] and see what makes sense.”
Alexander seemed pretty confident over his win and why should not he be, when he clearly went through the fight successful without any controversies or doubts. Anyone who watched fight would know Devon was ruling the game right from the start. Nicknamed
‘Alexander the Great’, this American boxer is finally on the verge of making something big out of his boxing career. If he gets a shot at Ortiz or Berto, he will have the chance to prove his mettle to the world. By looking at his win over Marcos, it can be
said that this young American fighter will definitely be troublesome for Ortiz or Berto, whoever gets him in the ring.
As of now, there is no news of Alexander’s next opponent. The proud fighter will now be celebrating his clean-sweep victory and will announce his next fight later on.
