Dew Tour scaled down from six events to three in 2012
The Dew Tour will be undergoing some major changes according to the announcement made by Alli Sports Group and NBC Sports Group on Monday.
While the original format of the tour had six Dew Tour events and six Winter Dew Tour events, the newer version of the tour will comprise of only three stops, featuring a “Beach” event in Ocean City, Maryland, in August, a “City” event in San Francisco,
California, in October and a “Mountain” event in Breckenridge, Colorado, in December.
Explaining the changes made to what is believed to be one of the core platforms of action sports, the president and CEO of Alli Sports Wade Martin explained, “The action sports landscape has grown and changed dramatically since we launched the Dew Tour in
2005. The multi-stop series format was what the industry wanted and needed then. The Dew Tour changed the industry forever, taking the sports to a whole new level. The new Dew Tour, which will include three major events across Beach, City and Mountain venues,
represents what the athletes and industry want and need today.”
The changes to the format of the Dew Tour will allow the organisers to put in an extra effort on making every single stop a huge success.
The consolidation of the six Dew Tour and Winter Dew Tour stops into a three-top tour is being welcomed by the action sports athletes. The athletes are glad to have less Dew Tour stops to fit into what has become a rather crowded competition schedule.
While talking to ESPN, the general manager of the Dew Tour Chris Prybylo explained that they are constantly evaluating the action sports industry and events and strongly feel that it would be best for them to cut down the number of events and instead focus
on quality.
He went on to add that the idea has received the support of a number of athletes as the industry is not what it was seven years ago when there were not enough events for the action sports athletes to compete in. With the new changes, the company would not
only be able to develop greater events that will feature greater competition courses, television production, etc.
