Dewi Claire Schreefel makes history in Dubai: Omega Dubai Ladies Masters
Dewi Claire Schreefel made history during the third day of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters tournament when she shot a nine-under-par 63.
The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is taking place on the Emirates Golf Club and is one of the final tournaments of the calendar year.
The Dutch professional golfer, Schreefel overshadowed the performance of Louise Stahle who struck an eight-under-par 64 back in 2007.
Schreefel is now placed at the second position after day three. She started her day from the 13th place on the leaderboard.
The current leader of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is the golfer from mainland China, Shanshan Feng. She leads the tournament with a five-shot advantage over the second position holder.
Schreefel made nine birdies. She made four on the front-nine and the other five on the back nine. The Dutch player did not have a single bogey to tarnish her record.
The earlier rounds played by Schreefel were satisfactory. She carded a 69 score on the first and 71 on the second day of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
The Dutch player turned professional in 2010 and only has a single title win to her name.
When she was asked about her historic day on the Majlis course, she said that she has never broken a record in her professional golf career.
She added that during her amateur tenure, she did make a few records but nothing like the one she has just made in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters tournament.
Schreefel commented that this is the best round of golf that she has played so far. Her previous best was a seven-under. She continued that to achieve such a feat, one has to make plenty of putts and a decent approach to the greens.
Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is one of the most lucrative tournaments on the ladies circuit. The course is a favourite amongst numerous players on the tour.
So far the tournament has displayed three excellent rounds of golf and promises to end with a nail biting finish.
Meanwhile, the Chinese golfer, Feng, who is leading the tournament, has to be on a lookout because with the form Schreefel is in, she is likely to give Feng a run for her money.
