Dewi Claire Schreefel shows magical form in season-ending Dubai Masters
Dutch Dewi Claire Schreefel held her ground in the final round of Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, shooting an overall 272 to take the second position on the leaderboard.
Schreefel was not among the star performers when she started her first round on Wednesday at Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, but she stormed into top five after the third round.
Shooting a 69 on the opening day, the Dutch star found it a bit hard to keep pace with most of the top-ranked players. She further dented her position in the second round as she carded a 71.
However, a massive 63 in the third round proved a game changer for Schreefel. At one stage, it seemed she would outperform a resilient Shanshan Feng who maintained her grip on the match since
the opening round.
Feng displayed a magical performance in all four rounds, posting a total score of 267 to grab a five-stroke victory against her nearest rival.
On the last day, Schreefel kept the momentum rolling all the way through. She carded a 69 to further cement her second position.
Starting the round on the front nine, the LET titan looked a bit jittery at first. She parred the first hole and carded a bogey on the second. However, she was quick to offset a bogey impact
as she reeled off two birdies on the third and 6th hole.
On the back nine, she further strengthened her position by firing three birdies. Although she tainted her scorecard with one bogey, her overall performance was solid enough to keep her on
the safe side.
“It's very nice. I'm very excited. I played very well the whole tournament. It's been a consistent season and I felt if I just played my game, I can finish well out here, so I'm very happy,”
Schreefel said while speaking to the media at the end of the tournament on Saturday.
Speaking of Feng’s fiery performance, Schreefel said that it felt like an uphill task to chase the leader in the last two rounds.
Observers said that scoring low when it mattered most was the need of the hour, and it gave the Dutch golfer much-needed confidence.
