Dexter by Jeff Lindsay book question?

what is the list of the dexter novels in order; (which one came first second third etc). are these good to read? ive never seen the show but i think ill try the books first

All the books are good, but they differ pretty significantly from the show. Some major plot points were changed from the novels. As to which is better... that's a toss up. There are things I like about both, but I'm really inclined to like the show more. That's very unusual for me, but there you have it.

This being said, one thing I really like about the book is that it more effectively communicates how... cold Dexter is. On the show, his fake warmth almost seems so genuine, you come to believe it. In the book, there is no mistaking Dexter for the monster he is.

I highly recommend you read the books AND watch the show (season three starts next month, so you've got some catching up to do!)
