Dez Bryant will not return punt for Dallas Cowboys against Atlanta Falcons – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys have decided not to let wide receiver Dez Bryant return punts against Atlanta Falcons in Week 9 game, after the player failed to deliver good performance during the last few games.
Playing as a punt returner, Bryant has not had success this season and this is something that has frustrated the entire team management.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett are desperate to see all units playing well on the field against Falcons and that is why Bryant has been stripped of his punt-returning duties.
The decision is somewhat disappointing for Bryant, who has accepted it rather humbly. However, the player has not given up yet and he is up for retaking his job back.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Bryant said of the decision:
“I understand it. I don’t like it because I want to do it. I’m going to continue to keep working at it. It’s not hard for me to catch a punt. I just need to feel it in and stop looking upfield and think before catching the rock. That should be my first objective,
to catch the ball and then go make a play.”
He added:
“I promise you, man, I’m going to get back in their ear. I think it will be hard for him to tell me no.”
During Week 8 defeat against New York Giants, the Cowboys were forced to replace Bryant when he had failed to perform well. After Bryant was benched, his duties were shared between Cole Beasley and Dwayne Harris.
According to the team’s website, Harris left Thursday’s practice session with a neck injury and his status for the game against Falcons is not clear yet.
Meanwhile, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who is already receiving a lot of criticism this season, has backed Bryant, saying that the receiver has been improving his performance with every game.
Asserting that Bryant should keep on growing in his game further, Romo admitted that there were some areas for the receiver to improve by paying attention to some minor details.
