Dhafir Smith collects impressive unanimous decision win over Anthony Ferrante – Boxing News
Dhafir Smith, the former WBF All American Light Heavyweight champion, collected an impressive unanimous decision win over fellow countryman Anthony Ferrante, the former World Boxing Foundation United States light heavyweight champion, in a 10-round bout
held on May 4, 2012.
The bout was for the vacant USA Pennsylvania State light heavyweight title and the ring for the bout was stretched at Harrah's situated in Chester, Pennsylvania, United States.
The duo headlined the Friday night show whereas the event was co-headlined by the six-round non-title bout between Victor Vasquez and Paul Fernandez.
The event was successfully promoted by the duo of Joey Intrieri and David Feldman of Joey Eye Boxing. From the very first round, Dhafir had a clear upper hand over his surging opponent Anthony.
Smith, 29, who recently had the honour to be the sparring partner of Lucian Bute and Andre Ward, was entering in his career’s 55th bout. The 29-year-old has nailed 25 of opponents and just four by knockout.
Despite the fact that he has sparred alongside names like above, Smith has unfortunately lost a huge 22 bouts in his career and most probably is going through a revamp phase, the reason why he accepted to spar with Bute and Ward.
Smith was coming from an impressive unanimous decision win over Quinton Rankin and was able to break the three-bout lose streak. He has also fought Jesus Gonzalez for the IBF North American super middleweight gold.
His Friday night opponent, Anthony, 27, was seriously outclassed by Smith’s experience. The North Philadelphia proud was in his career’s16th bout and boasted 12 wins with seven via knockout. As far as the win and knockout proficiency are concerned, Anthony
had a slight upper hand over Smith.
The factor that motivated Smith to move forward and put forth a great show was Anthony’s last loss to Omar Sheika. Ferrante, also known as the ‘Tony’, was coming from a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Omar, a man who had more experience than him.
The bout kicked off and from the very first round the fan-favourite Smith, started pounding and pummelling Dhafir. Anthony was not able to even defend himself correctly and put forth a flawed performance.
The score allocated by the three judges also proved that the bout was a complete one-sided show with Smith looking as if he was practicing and sharpening his fists and jabs. With this win by 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92 scores, Smith has collected his career’s
26th win whereas Anthony has received his fourth loss.
