Dhafir Smith picks unanimous win over Quinton Rankin – Boxing news
In almost a one-sided handicap brawl, Universal Boxing Organisation’s (UBO) unanimous Boxer of the Year 2011, Dhafir Smith, authoritatively destroyed his young and rookie opponent Quinton Rankin, in a six-round super middleweight skirmish on Saturday, January
28, 2012.
The squared stage was set at First District Plaza Arena putting forth the Philadelphians of Pennsylvania, United States an extravaganza that will be remembered for years. The non-title fight was basically a backup bout which replaced the originally scheduled
bout between heavyweights Gerald Nobles and Marlon Hayes.
On the cancellation of the heavyweight brawlers clash, Percy Custis, owner of Shuler’s Gym Promotions and the official promoter of the event was forced to make up another bout in order to replace the original card hence took place a faceoff between the heavily
experienced Dhafir and the naive, newbie Quinton.
The event was named as “The Future of Philadelphia Fighters” and put forth its fans an epic show that made the whole arena applaud vigorously. The bout when announced brought a deep smile on the faces of all the fans and the critics since it clearly meant
a one-sided dual in which Rankin was to become dead meat.
Dhafir, dubbed as No Fear, had been in a total 54 bouts. Though he has lost 22 of those brawls, his experience is what made the critics believe that Rankin will be duly hammered. The 29-year-old at such a young age had won 25 bouts and has also been conferred
the WBF All American light heavyweight champion gold.
Rankin, on the other hand was in his sixth bout. Quinton, infamous as The Renegade, had won four of his five brawls, three of them he collected by knocking the opponent out cold. But these stats were not enough to overshadow the lengthy resume of Dhafir,
America’s number 14th and world’s number 65th super middleweight.
The bout started and Smith despite of the big upper hand started feeling the wrath of the young 25-year-old fellow countryman Quinton. The Renegade tried his level best to rampage the veteran but his experience overtook the young gun when in the fifth round
Smith created havoc and blasted his heavy fists brutally over Quinton’s face and body.
Eventually the five-minute six rounds ended and the three designated judges unanimously gave the bout to Dhafir by allocating him 59-54, 58-54, and 59-54. After this encounter Smith’s record has increased by one win and now states a win-loss scenario of
25-22 in 54 bouts with seven draws as well. Quinton the Renegade on the other hand now has four wins and two losses in a total of 6 brawls.
