Two teams have qualified for the final of the inaugural Twenty20 Bangladesh Premier League. The Dhaka Gladiators who have confirmed a date with Barisal Burners for the finals, which will take place on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Shere Bangla National
Stadium, Mirpur.
Gladiators secured a place in the finals after winning a thrilling contest against Khulna Royal Bengals by nine runs.
Bengals were chasing a mammoth total of 191 runs. In spite of the resilient batting from their skipper, Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 (86), Bengals fell short of the winning total.
The skipper of the Gladiators, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917, won the toss and elected to bat first. Awais Zia and Imran Nazir started the proceedings for the Gladiators. Nazir let his natural style of play dominate; however, Zia showed some signs of tiredness, as the
batsman just flew in from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 to take part in this fixture.
Shakib Al Hasan, was the one who broke the opening partnership when he saw the back of Zia, with the score at 21.
Bengals one down batsman, Nazimuddin was not in the best of forms. The batsman found it hard to middle the ball and this mounted immense pressure on him. In an attempt to get off strike, the batsman took a risky single and got run-out.
Nazir found a reliable partner in the shape of Azhar Mahmood. The two Pakistani cricketers put on 41 runs for the third wicket, before their compatriot Mohammad Hafeez drew the curtains on Nazir’s innings in the eight over.
Mohammad Ashraful came out to bat at the demise of Nazir and along with Mahmood amassed 72 runs for the fourth wicket. Mahmood was the last wicket to fall for the Gladiators, he scored 65 runs.
Shahid Afridi smacked some mighty blows near the end of the innings which powered the Gladiators to 191.
