Dhaka Metropolis v Sylhet Division – National Cricket League, 2012/13 – Match Update – Dhaka Metropolis finish third, with 9-wicket win
Dhaka Metropolis clinched third place in the recently wrapped-up National Cricket League, after claiming a comprehensive 9-wicket win over the Sylhet Division, in their match played from December 7 to 10 at the Cricket Garden in Rangpur.
Having chosen to field first, Sylhet Division’s Abu Jayed (19-3-67-4), Enamul Haque jnr (30.1-5-91-3), and Tapash Baisya (15-1-56-2) made valiant attempts to keep the Dhaka Metropolis batsmen in line. However, while they succeeded in restricting most of
the batsmen, Player of the Match Marshall Ayub (116) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mehrab-Hossain-c75570 jnr (110) put in strong performances, and got their side up to a first innings total of 345, after which they were all out on the second day of play.
Sylhet’s first innings, by comparison, was a patchy affair, and Mohammad Ashraful (23-9-41-5), Sharifullah (8.5-1-26-3), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alok-Kapali-c43787 top-scored for the team with
42, but barring him, opening batsman Sayem Alam (23) was the only one who managed to pass the 20-run mark. Top-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Hossain-c64283, who was dismissed on duck. The
rest failed to capitalise on their starts, and the third day saw Sylhet all out for 155.
Asked to follow on, the team stepped up to bat for a second time, and although http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Ashraful-c76740 (17-3-64-2), and Marshall Ayub (10-1-40-2) kept up a steady assault, Sylhet managed a marginally better performance. The major contributions
came from Rumman Ahmed (82) and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Enamul-Haque-jnr-c56009 (25) also chipped in with useful runs. However, the team was unable to recover from their poor start, and were eventually bowled for 265, setting Dhaka
Metropolis a meagre 76-run target.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Shamsur-Rahman-c77337 (45*) set up an unbeaten 64-run stand which saw the team
home safe, getting them up to 78 with 9 wickets remaining.
