Dharamshala eyes ICC recognition for International matches
After hosting some of the Indian Premier League (IPL) games, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Himachal-Pradesh-c791 Cricket Association ground, Dharamshala, is now looking for International Cricket Council (ICC) recognition in order to get hosting status of international cricket matches.
Situated at an altitude of almost 5000 feet above the sea level, it poses to be the most beautiful and picturesque cricket venue in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bishan-Singh-Bedi-c48133, a former Indian skipper is so much fascinated by the charm of the HPCA ground that he regards the venue better than Lord’s, an English stadium that is termed as the ‘Mecca of Cricket’.
Though the stadium has a live pitch and well-covered outfield along with pleasant weather conditions, it has not been able to get the international hosting status due to the fact that the city of Dharamshala lacks some of the logistical facilities like airports
and roads.
Now, the political and cricket authorities of the city have realized the importance of the city and are building up infrastructure.
Talking to the media, the HPCA president, Anurag Thakur said, “There is only one airport where not more than a couple of commercial flights take off and land on a daily basis. The region is hilly and traffic could be a problem. Besides, there is no five-star
hotel in the city. However, we are working on all those fronts.”
Thakur also told that at the end of the ongoing IPL tournament, they would invite the ICC inspection team to visit the venue. He was hopeful that the council would surely find the stadium suitable for international games.
In this tournament, three matches were scheduled to be played at the HPCA stadium. One was played on last Sunday, one is to be played on May 17, between Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 and Royal Challengers Bangalore and the third one will be played on Saturday.
Apart from being a picnic resort, Dharamshala has great historical and cultural importance. The exiled spirual leader of Tibet, Dalai Lama, is staying here. Moreover, the town had been the center of attraction for the Mughal and British rulers.
Dharamshala is getting a large number of visitors during this tournament as the Indians have combined cricket with picnic.
