The Dharamshala town of Chandigarh will get a large number of tourists on May 15, 2011, for an Indian Premier League game between Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils. The town is the abode of the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama.
IPL has increased the value of the beautiful resort that lies in Dhauladhar ranges. The town is packed with natural beauty and historical heritage of many eras.
According to an estimate, the Dharamshala town is likely to get at least 20, 000 spectators along with VVIPs that include political and showbiz figures.
Dharamshala has a marvellous historical background. It has been a great attraction for local and foreign tourists in every era. During the British colonial rule, the town served as a health resort and resting place for the rulers.
Moreover, the presence of Dalai Lama has raised the worth of the town more. Lama is a great spiritual and political revolutionary who is much respected around the globe.
Analysts suggest that the weekend’s game will perk up economic and commercial activities in the town. They believe that the IPL has changed the tourism scenario in Dharamshala and introduced its importance at the global level.
Ahead of tomorrow’s game, the booking in hotels and restaurants is at peak and it is hard for most of the visitors to get a room there.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sanjeev-Kumar-c88646, a local resident, says, “Beside Dharamshala and Mcleodganj, hotels in far off places like Palampur, Kangra and Jawalaji too are packed, while taxi operators, restaurants and hops selling traditional handicrafts items are having their share
of the pie.”
However, Dharamshala lacks infrastructure to accommodate a large number of visitors. Hamiprur MP, Anurag Thakur, said, “After IPL, Dharamshala needs more infrastructure to accommodate the swelling rush of tourists. Live telecast of matches played here are
attracting more people now.”
Himachal Predesh tourism director, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arun-Sharma-c46124, told media that Dharamshala authorities are thinking about improving the infrastructure of the town in order to widen the tourism net and get more profit.
