Dharma Alrie Guna outplays Wee Chung Pei in first round of Vietnam International Challenge
Indonesia’s Dharma Alrie Guna started his campaign in a tremendous fashion as he defeated Malaysia’s Wee Chung Pei in Men’s Singles first round of Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge 2012 on Wednesday, March 28, in Vietnam.
Dharma played remarkable badminton against the talented Malaysian and registered victory over him in three games after working extra hard in the court.
On the other hand, Wee Chung showed his brilliance throughout the contest but failed to dominate the pace in the ending phase of last set and lost this prolonged fight in 65 minutes.
In the first game, both youngsters put up tremendous show by playing with precision and remained equal in the opening rallies.
However, Dharma managed to take over the control of rallies and started to dictate the pace. He remained positive in the court and got a wonderful lead until the 60-second interval in the opening set.
After the break, Wee Chung tried to play better badminton but failed to live up to expectations as he could not stop the progressive run of his Indonesian opponent.
On the other hand, Dharma was quite composed in the game and won the opening set with a sensational margin of 21-14.
In the second game, Wee Chung showed an elevated performance and managed to push his opponent on back foot by playing with aggression.
Until the break in the second set, the Malaysian was slightly ahead of his Indonesian challenger on the score board.
After the interval, Dharma increased his speed but got no result as he could not find gaps in his opponent’s court and eventually lost the set with a difference of 16-21.
In the decider, both shuttlers remained neck-to-neck in the opening points as they played at their maximum speed.
However, Dharma managed to set up a reasonable lead until the 60-second interval.
After the break, Dharma remained in complete control as he did not drop the pace of rallies and kept his rival under pressure. He played positively and won the deciding game with a decent margin of 21-17.
Dharma won his first fight in the tournament by taking 65 minutes with a thrilling score of 21-14, 16-21 and 21-17.
