Dhoni Risks Ban for Slow Indian over Rates
Lately, the Indian Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, seems to have picked up a habit for making headlines.
The Indian squad made news after cricket officials accused Dhoni and his squad for bowling three overs short during the team’s 2nd Test game against the West Indies at Barbados.
According to the rules and regulations set out by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Dhoni now needs to make sure that his bowlers deliver complete overs within the allotted time for the third Test match against the West Indies.
Failing to adhere to the code of conduct may result in Dhoni’s suspension from the opening Test match for the upcoming series against England.
However, this is not the first time that the Indians have been charged with slow over-rate allegations.
In 2009, Dhoni was banned from two One Day International (ODI) matches after his side was charged with slow over-rate.
The ban came after the team’s second ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Nagpur. As a result of too many team discussions, the game ended an extra 45 minutes late from its scheduled time.
Earlier this year, Dhoni was again heeded for the same blunder during India’s third Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Cape Town.
The Indian players were fined 30 percent of their match fees, while the Captain, Dhoni, was penalized at 60 percent.
Based on the regulations laid out by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625, if a team is found guilty for bowling slow over-rates on three occasions, within a period of 12 months, the team Captain would face an immediate suspension from the next game under the same format.
As for now, Dhoni seems to have been pointed out twice. For his upcoming games, the Skipper needs to make sure that his bowlers maintain a clean sheet; especially in the third Test match against West Indies at Dominica.
Failure to do so may result in Dhoni’s exclusion from the upcoming Test game against England following by fines on the Indian players and a ‘double’ fine on the Captain himself.
