Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 on Wednesday admitted that switching from five-day cricket to the fast-paced T20 format was difficult, however he hoped his players to adapt quickly to the shortest format of the game ahead of the T20 World Cup, starting in Sri Lanka in less than a week.
"It's quite difficult to switch formats, especially from Test to T20. The way you approach a game is different in all the three formats and you have to adjust," said Dhoni during a media encounter after arriving here in Colombo on Wednesday, for the marquee tournament commencing next Tuesday.
MS Dhoni and his men played two Test matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at home, between August 23 and September 3, before playing the same opposition in two-match T20 series. The first T20 encounter at Visakhapatnam was washed out due to heavy rains, while the second and final match at Chennai was won by the tourists, by one run.
After losing the match to the Black Caps on Tuesday night, MS Dhoni and Co flew for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 early Wednesday, to participate in the T20 showpiece.
Drafted with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745, at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on September 19.
The champions of the inaugural T20 World Cup, in 2007, will also play warm-up matches against hosts Sri Lanka, on September 15, and arch rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 a day later. Dhoni hoped a week’s time is more than enough for his players to get into groove ahead of the mega event.
“It is not that you cannot do it, only thing is that your basics will have to be right,” said the Ranchi boy, who led http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to T20 World Champ title in 2007 and ODI champions in 2011.
"But as professional cricketers we have to do that and players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 have been playing in three formats and doing well," he added further.
The wicketkeeper batsman urged his batsmen to be at their best over the next couple of weeks if they want to lift the coveted trophy for the second time.
"We are the world champions in 50-over format and it is important we do well in the Twenty20 World Cup. We have to be at our best in this format," Dhoni said.
