Rahul Dravid, a long-term teammate of Laxman, has played down the talks of the Test veteran’s removal. He further added that such rumours have not at all affected Laxman’s game.
"I don't think the talk (of Laxman’s removal) has affected him much,” said Dravid speaking to the media persons after a practice session on Tuesday morning. “I haven't read and Lax is not bothered either. It's part and parcel of our job...He is a pretty
relaxed character and I'm sure he would come good in one of these Tests," he added further.
Laxman, the 37-year-old prolific Test batsman hailing from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 last summer, where he could score only 182 runs from eight innings at an unimpressive average of 22.75. The
veteran failed to perform in the ongoing tour of Australia as well, as he compiled just 102 runs in the past six innings at an average of 17.
Laxman’s failures with the bat at a time when all of the other Indian batsmen are also struggling to score has reportedly put the veteran under selectors’ scrutiny. Besides, there have been growing calls for Laxman’s windup from former Indian cricketers
and pundits.
Last week some unnamed BCCI officials had claimed that the veteran of 133 Tests will announce his retirement ahead of the Adelaide Test, otherwise he will be sidelined by the Indian selectors.
The Indian skipper, who will be serving a one Test ban when the tourists would take field against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the final Test at Adelaide next week, was tight lipped when asked to comment on the hot issue making rounds in the Indian media.
"As of now, there is nothing I know of officially. I wouldn't like to answer when there is a big if and a big but. I don't know from where it has come. Till Laxman comes and tells me, I wouldn't like to speculate on it," Dhoni had said after the WACA Test.
The left-hander has so far played 133 Tests compiling a tally of 8728 runs at an average of 46.18, including 17 centuries and 56 half centuries.
