Dhoni backs bowlers after last-ball defeat to Mumbai Indians – Cricket News Update
The Chennai Super Kings skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, has backed his bowlers despite the fact that a not so impressive bowling display in the death overs cost them the thriller against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday, May 6, 2012.
In their return-leg Indian Premier League match against Bhajji and men, the Chennai bowlers failed to defend a competitive total of 173 for 8. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309 provided the hosts a perfect launch pad with a 126-run stand for the third-wicket.
But the game changed on its head after Tendulkar’s dismissal in the 16th over, with 134 on the board. In the next three overs, Mumbai lost five quick wickets, including four ducks, as they were reeling at 158 for 7 at the end of the 19th
over.
Needing 16 runs from the last six balls, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 home on the last ball of the game, with two wickets to spare.
“We all know yorkers are great in the death overs, but not everybody can produce yorkers. But still I think our bowlers did well to bring us back in the match,” said the Ranchi wicketkeeper batsman at the post-match press conference on Sunday.
The visiting skipper also praised Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma for providing the hosts an impressive start. Dhoni said that Sachin’s wicket in the 16th over had brought them back into the game, but they failed to finish it off well.
Asked if his side lacked a proper strategy to counter the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, the Chennai skipper said, “There’s no point saying that you need a certain plan against a certain batsman… You will also have to see the resources you have got… the
strength of the bowlers you have got. You can’t just plan without assessing your resources.”
This was Chennai’s sixth defeat of the season. Dhoni said that they have learnt a lot from the defeat and hoped to bounce back strongly in the ensuing four games. Currently, the defending champions stand at number four on the IPL-V points table with 11
points from 12 outings.
