Dhoni is a much better one-day captain, says Ganguly – Cricket News Update
India’s former captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 and advised the national selectors to have different captains for Test cricket and the shorter versions of the sport.
Over the last 18 months, the Men in Blue have had a torrid time in international cricket, losing their number one ranking in Tests as well as their Asian champion’s title. Dhoni’s men lost eight consecutive Tests away from home in the previous season against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
The worst however, is being witnessed in the on-going four-match Test series at home against the Poms. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 were clearly the pre-series favourites, with the analysts predicting the home team’s clear dominance.
That has not been the case though, as England have fought back quite impressively after losing the first Test at Ahmedabad to beat Dhoni and company at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 and Kolkata, taking an unassailable lead in the competition.
The Indian skipper is being criticised in the national media for his lacklustre approach, with some pundits calling for the wicketkeeper/batsman’s axing.
Ganguly however, still believes that the cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jharkhand-c800 is a genuine match-winner but wants him to be relieved from Test captaincy, which will ease Dhoni’s workload.
“Every team in the world has gone with split captaincy. I am not saying the selectors should sack Dhoni and say, 'You're out'. I have always said there is too much burden on him. I think we are losing MS Dhoni as a player,” said the former captain.
Ganguly further added that leading an international side does have an impact on a player’s individual performance, which is the reason why the 31-year-old cricketer has scored just one century in the five-day format since February, 2010.
In the former left-handed batsman’s opinion, Dhoni should just lead his country in the limited-over sport.
“Captaincy and your ability as a player are interlinked, I think Dhoni is a much better one-day captain than he is a Test captain,” he added. “His performance in recent Tests has not been up to the mark, but that is because there is too much of a burden on him.”
