Dhoni is still the right choice for captaincy, says Wasim Akram – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistani skipper and legendary bowler, Wasim Akram, backed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 as the Indian Captain, despite his poor show against England in the ongoing Test series.
Trailing the 4-match Test series against England at home (2-1), the Indian skipper was put in the line of fire by his critics and former Indian players for his poor leadership. However, coming to his aid, the former left-arm fast bowler feels, “I am positive
that Dhoni is the right choice to remain as captain, but he has to be more flexible in his tactics.”
He believes that the reason behind India’s below par performance is not having an alternate plan, after their usual strategy fails to deliver the results for them. “You cannot throw the ball to a novice like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228, like Dhoni did in Kolkata,
and expect him to produce miracles,” said the former skipper.
After speculations of a split-captaincy approach for the Indian side, right-handed batsman Virat Kohli’s was touted by many to be Dhoni’s successor in the limited-over formats. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 thinks the young Kohli is not ready to lead team India at
the moment.
“If the team management feels that a policy of split-captaincy would release the pressure on Dhoni, then maybe there is a need for change. But personally I would still have Dhoni over next-in-line http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737, who is too young to lead Team India,” added
Akram.
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607 Tendulkar’s poor batting form is a more pressing concern for the Men in Blue.
Reflecting on the performance of left-arm Indian pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 and Kolkata, Akram feels that the lack of pace in Zaheer’s bowling is letting him down.
He added that the Indian left-armer, who was dropped for the 4th and final Test against the Poms, can still play for another two years, provided he goes back to domestic cricket and works on his fitness.
Faced with the prospect of losing a Test series at home, India’s skipper MS Dhoni is under severe pressure in what many believe to be a make-or-break Test series against the touring English.
