Dhoni predicts Sehwag, Gambhir and Kohli as strong contenders for Indian captaincy – Cricket News Update
Refusing to speculate on who could be his successor, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 and Virat Kohli as strong contenders for the coveted position.
Responding to a question on India’s future cricket captain, the 30-year-old wicketkeeper batsman from Ranchi and the incumbent Indian skipper said that choosing his successor is not in his hands and if ever he is asked to do so, he
would choose himself for the coveted role.
"It is not my choice ... my choice would be me," said Dhoni while speaking to the media reporters in Baramulla, a place which is in the suburbs of Srinagar. "As far as the contenders are concerned there are many...we have Virender
Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737," the Ranchi boy added further.
Dhoni was given the reins of Indian cricket team in 2007 ahead of the first World T20 Championship in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and the Ranchi boy led the side to a glorious triumph in his first ever international tournament as captain. He then
led the side to the top of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test rankings in December 2009, a feat that the Men in Blue enjoyed for a year and a half, before relinquishing the spot in favour of England in August last year.
The calm and cool Dhoni added another fangled-feather in his memorable cap when he led the Men in Blue to World Cup title at home last year.
However, his successful captaincy started declining after the 2011 World Cup glory, especially in the Test format of the game, as the Indian team faced back-to-back away Test series whitewashes at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746
within a time frame of six months, both with a margin of 0-4.
Dhoni also proved himself to be an astute leader in the Indian Premier League, leading his IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings, to back-to-back trophies in 2010 and 2011. He however failed to complete the hat-trick of titles as his
side closely missed it by losing the final to Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders last Sunday.
Since then there have been growing calls for appointing Gambhir as the Test captain of India. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Anthony-Hibbert-c81005 himself said last week that he was ready to take the responsibility of the Indian team in the longest format of the game.
"Absolutely, it is the biggest honour. I am ready for it. Ready for the responsibility of the challenge because you want to take different challenges as well. That's where your mental toughness and character will be tested," Gambhir
had said when asked if he was ready to lead the national Test side.
