Dhoni should be consulted in any decision regarding captaincy, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 – Cricket News Update
The former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly has expressed that his statement regarding India's Test captaincy was misquoted in the media last month and clarified that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 remains India’s best choice as a leader.
The wicketkeeper batsman has been heavily criticized in recent times because of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
After the final of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), there were reports in the media that Ganguly has urged the selectors to appoint http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 as the Test captain.
The former left-handed batsman admitted that he was extremely impressed with Gambhir's leadership skills, who led his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders, to the first-ever title triumph and proved that he has the ability to extract the
best out of his players.
However, Ganguly clarified that he never hinted towards replacing Dhoni but only presented Gambhir as a viable option because the cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jharkhand-c800 has too many responsibilities on his shoulders, which are reflecting on his
performances in the five-day version of the sport off-late.
“It's not my call, but I'm worried over (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni's workload. He's the India captain in all formats, he's also the Chennai Super Kings captain. Then, he's the 'keeper and has a role to play as a batsman,” Ganguly said.
The Kolkata-born cricketer, who is one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket's history, understands that Dhoni has been doing a wonderful job since the last five years and the wicketkeeper has taken his team to new heights.
This is the reason why Ganguly thinks that any decision regarding captaincy must be taken after consulting Dhoni, as he is the best man to decide that how much workload his body can afford to take.
He added, “He hasn't done well in Test cricket of late and the reality is that he's led India to eight Test defeats in a row overseas. However, don't get me wrong, any decision the selectors take, should be in consultation with Dhoni.
He must be taken into confidence. The interest of Indian cricket has to be paramount.”
