Dhoni wants practical review of his team’s failure in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 – Cricket News Update
Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, has called for a practical review over his team’s failure to qualify to the semi-finals of the ongoing ICC World T20, and said that the players cannot be blamed after losing just one game in the tournament.
The Men in Blue again found themselves at the receiving end of a torrent of criticism on their inability to make their dominance count at the International T20 stage since lifting the trophy in 2007.
Having come through the group stage undefeated, they suffered a big loss at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in their opening Super Eights fixture, which meant that they had to win both of their remaining matches by convincing margins in order to improve their net-run rate.
They managed to do that against arch-rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, restricting the Men in Green to a paltry score of 128 and chased that down with 18 balls to spare. However, with the Green Shirts securing a comfortable victory over the Aussies, the Men in Blue were again left with plenty to do against the Proteas in their final Super Eights game.
Though they managed to win the tie by one run, their margin of victory was no where big enough to allow them a safe route to the next phase. With disappointments a plenty over the past 18 months, where they lost away series to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472 on practical grounds, he couldn’t have asked for more from his players.
"The same question was asked when we lost in England and Australia," Dhoni said. "This is one question that arises when we have not done well but just see the performance in this tournament. We lost one game and lost it badly.
“Let's get practical about what the reason was and then assess if it's the fault of the players. It is not. It can happen in this format. You are at the stage where other games are having an impact. You don't want that kind of situation to happen but sometimes you are just forced to accept what is pushed on to you."
