  1. Yes, you can say that Benito Juárez obtained what he wanted, since he had many personal achievements (a story of success) as well as political ones (like being president of Mexico for 14 years).

In Mexico he is considered a hero, but as someone else said, his role in the history of the country is controverted. He laid the the foundations for the laws of reform, separating  the church from the state, he fought for equality and for freedom, but after a bloody war of three years to put to the country under a constitution, Juárez himself violated the legal principles he had established, giving himself dictator faculties. Also, when his cause ran out of money, he turned to the United States to obtain a loan of 25 million dollars, guaranteed by the goods he would confiscate from the church, leaving the country indebted by being unable to pay. Also he put in danger the national sovereignty when trying to negotiate another credit  guaranteed by the mining rights of the states of Baja California, Chihuahua, Sonora and Sinaloa, which were not accepted. People also condemn that  his arrival to the power was betraying his ally, President Comonfort, and that he was vindictive with the food producers of Guanajuato for increasing the prices of the products with which he supplied his army.
