Interim Chelsea manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo has expressed his contentment with the far from pleasing 1-0 win over Stoke City.
Chelsea resumed their quest for a top four finish with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Stoke City, courtesy a cool and composed finish from Didier Drogba. The Blues, playing at Stamford Bridge, had a one-man advantage for much of the game, but could only break
the visitor’s resolve after nearly 70 minute.
It was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s second win under the tutelage of Di Matteo but their performance on the pitch barely moved a bar above mediocrity.
Regardless on the performance, Di Matteo was content, and expressed as much by saying:
“When you play against Stoke you know it will be difficult to break them down. Given that, the sending off didn’t change much for them, they had two banks of four and defended deep.
“Sometimes you have to win like this to get three points. It’s not always going to be easy or pretty - sometimes you have to win scrappy.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 and Juan Mata were the only two outfield players to impress, with the latter providing the assist for Drogba’s 100th Premier League goal. Speaking on Drogba’s performance, the manager expressed that his striker needed to be physical
against an imposing Stoke defence.
“I thought it was going to be physical, as it always is against Stoke. I wanted to start with a physical team, that was the idea. I wasn’t thinking about Napoli.
“It’s a question of picking a team for a single game. Next game I will see what I think we need, then make decisions.”
With a Premier League win under the belt, the focus now turns to the Champions League game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 and now are in dire need of a comeback performance.
Di Matteo’s men need to score at least twice without conceding to progress through to the quarter-finals on aggregate. Needless to say, the caretaking manager has a tough http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 on his hands as his Chelsea side have a tough run of fixtures to play till the
end of the season.
