Di Resta to challenge Hamilton and Vettel just like old times
Force India’s boss Vijay Mallya recently announced his team’s drivers’ line-up in a press conference held in Glasgow and revealed that Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta will race for the team as regular drivers during 2011 season, while Nico Hulkenberg will
be acting as a test/reserve driver. Since Paul is going to be a part of the 2011 Formula 1 season, he is looking forward to outperform his old rivals, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.
Paul raced against both the world champions during his time in Formula Renault and F3 Euroseries. He was able to beat Sebastian Vettel during 2006 season while competing for F3 Euroseries, and plans to overtake his rival once again.
“I don't want to sound big-headed, but I wasn't racing them when they won their championships. We've had some great battles in the past. Hopefully I'll get a repeat of that in the future,” he said.
Di Resta will team alongside Adrian Sutil; however, it would not be easy for him to top Adrian’s performance that soon.
Paul was unable to cope up with Vettel and Hamilton earlier and resultantly he changed his direction. However, he’s back on the tracks of Formula One, and hopes to excel in due time.
“I wouldn't say it's been frustrating, [but] they've had it easier than me. They had different backing and that got them there a bit quicker. Looking at it they were luckier than I am, but I've got there,” said Paul.
He believes that Sebastian and Hamilton got “luckier” in their journey to F1 and now both are racing for reliable teams.
Since di Resta has replaced Tonio Liuzzi and has been chosen over Nico Hulkenberg as a full season driver, the team is expecting a lot from him. Hence, he needs to prove his mettle soon, in order to stay in the team and the sport.
“I would hope to be on the same pace as him or quicker than him from the start,” di Resta said.
The fans will be expecting a lot from Paul di Resta at the pre-season test session, as the team is set to make some modifications according to his likings, so that the driver comes up with a consistent performance during 2011 Formula 1 season.
