Di Wu, Guillermo Olaso cruise into second round – Beijing International Challenger 2011
Chinese tennis pro Di Wu secured a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victory over compatriot Yu Chang on Monday to book his place in the second round of 2011 ATP Beijing International Challenger Series, in China
Wu looked in great touch in a match that lasted for only 1 hour and 5 minutes at the clay courts of Umag. Looking to attack his opponent, Wu created all sorts of problems for his opponent with his strong ground strokes and blistering
serves.
Ranked 392nd in the Association of Tennis Professional ranking, Wu made an attacking start to the match. Chang, in contrast, made a large number of unforced errors in the opener to let his opponent take control of things.
Despite receiving several break opportunities during the set, Chang failed to convert any of those points.
Wu took complete advantage of his rival’s inability to score easy points and established complete control over the situation The Chinese suffered a serve break in one of the games but he broke straight back twice to hold on to
his advantage. Leading the game score at 5-1, Lu set up two set points on his own serve. Converting the first one with a marvellous forehand winner down the line, he took the set score lead 1-0.
The 19-year-old Wu continued to display some great hard court in the second set as well as he did not allow his opponent to breath. Breaking the serve at regular intervals, he raced to an impassable 5-2 lead in the set. The Chinese
had no problems converting his fourth and last serve game of the set as he ended the match in style.
Putting his opponent under immense pressure, Wu dashed his admirable forehand and backhand winners all over the court. His well directed and on-target serving in the match played a big part in deciding the outcome of the match.
Hitting an impressive 74 per cent first serve, he took control of the points and then executed his clever chip shots to perfection as he bamboozled Chang. He will be looking to maintain his good form in his second round match-up as well.
In another match at the ATP tournament, number three seed Guillermo Olaso of Spain eased past local player Ya-Nan Ma 6-3, 7-5 to move ahead.
Olaso made a shaky start to the match as he made unexpected errors early in the opening set. Breaking the serve in eight game, he took a healthy 5-3 lead. Clinching four straight points on his next service game, he took the opening
set. The second set also followed a similar pattern as Olaso broke serve once more to complete his straight sets victory.
