Di Wu shocks Tim Smyczek in the initial qualifiers – Brisbane International 2013
American challenger, Tim Smyczek, faced a straight-set shocker at the hands of the Chinese competitor, Di Wu, in the initial qualifying round of the Brisbane International 2013. The Chinese junior consolidated a 6-4, 6-3 victory
in approximately one hour and nine minutes on the eve of Saturday.
The Chinese right-hander, Wu, started the match with a very upbeat momentum and held his serve for the entire time in the match. For the initial part of the set, he received a tough competition at the hands of the Smyczek. The
score line squared down until the eighth game and after that point, Wu picked up his moment and snatched the last two games on the trot. The Chinese participant terminated the initial set with a 6-4 score and cashed on his challengers serve in the last game.
Ranked 183rd in the South African Airways ATP World Rankings, Wu attained 45 percent initial serve precision with 15 of 21 first and 13 of 25 second serve points in the opener. In comparison to this, Smyczek attained
68 percent initial serve accuracy with 15 of 17 first and three of eight second serve points.
In the second set, right-hander Chinese qualifier sustained his former pace and broke his rival’s serve in the second game. He bagged away the initial three games without any hindrance and marked a 3-0 lead. This completely demoralized
his opponent and the American participant faced a tough time in order to cover the initial loss. The Chinese contestant jumped up and terminated the set with a 6-3 win.
The world number 128, Smyczek, attained a relatively better initial serve precision of 82 percent and fired across one ace. He pocketed away 15 of 23 first but lost the front as he secured just two from five second serve points.
In comparison to this, Wu attained 62 percent initial serve precision with 14 of 15 first and six of nine serve points. He attained one of two serve break opportunities and his competitor was unable to attain even one.
