DiBella Entertainment signs Matthew Macklin for a multi-year promotional deal – Boxing news
New York’s DiBella Entertainment has recently signed a multi-year promotional deal with the former Irish, British and European middleweight champion, Matthew Macklin.
Mack the Knife, Macklin, was recently outpointed by the current World Boxing Association’s middleweight world champion, Felix Sturm, with a split decision in Germany.
However, despite the loss Matthew is still ranked number four by the World Boxing Association, number 7 by the World Boxing Organisation and number 12 by the International Boxing Organisation.
Therefore, DiBella Entertainment has added the Irish-English middleweight contender, Matthew Macklin, to their stable of fighters.
The 29-year-old, Macklin, who has won 28 of his 31 fights including 19 by the way of a knockout, is very delighted on joining DiBella Entertainment.
Macklin told the media he has known the founder and chief of DiBella Entertainment, Lou DiBella, for many years. The boxer revealed he had a few words with DiBella in 2010 about signing the contract and now he feels secure as it has all been done.
“I am really happy to be signing with DiBella Entertainment,” said Macklin.
While speaking on his inclusion, he added, “I’ve known Lou DiBella for many years. I met him in Manchester when Paulie Malignaggi fought Lovemore Ndou in 2008. We spoke about doing something together last year, but the timing wasn’t right. I feel that we’re
now on the same wavelength. I’m excited about the future and I feel that I am in very good hands with Lou.”
Macklin in the meanwhile was asked about his loss against Jamie Moore at the George Carnall Leisure Centre in Manchester back in September 2006. This fight was rated as one of the best fights of that year.
Macklin, who was knocked out in the 10th round, claimed he was not fit for the fight as his weight was the problem.
“I fought Jamie Moore at the wrong weight,” said Macklin. “Although I shouldn’t have fought Moore’s fight, making weight was the problem in that bout. I had no stamina and no reflexes.”
Let’s hopes Matthew Macklin gets a bright future with the DiBella Entertainment, who also have the current WBC Middleweight Champion Sergio Gabriel Martinez.
