I've had type 1 diabetes for many years but every once in a while it just gets old. All the stuff. Blood sugar tests and feeling like your the only one who wants to quit checking and measuring and feeling like c**p when you don't get it right. Does anyone else ever feel like this? And as always I just get over that and keep doing what is necessary to keep on but it would be nice to hear others stories and how you all deal with diabetes burnout.

  1. I have been type 1 13 years and yes I know exactly how you feel! Most times I can keep a positive attitude but I do have those times when I just want to give up it can be a very frustrating disease to deal with on a daily basis. When I get down I try to think about all the people out there who have things much worse than me. We at least can try and keep things under control not like a cancer that has no cure etc. Hope this Helps.

  2. It is tough feeling like you're the only one going through it all surrounded by people who really don't understand exactly what it's like.

Fortunately there are a number of good online diabetes forums where diabetics can share experiences, support each other and even have a laugh. A search engine will help you find them. They vary in tone, the level of knowledge on offer and their willingness to entertain lunatics pushing "snake oil" cures.

I'm sure you will find one such online community where you'll feel comfortable and making online diabetic friends can be a big help when it all feels a bit much.

The one I use is http://www.diabetes-support.org.uk/forum...  but, as I say, look around and see if there's one that feels right for you.

  3. Yeah, it gets old fast. But I find that it is much easier to just keep on truckin'.

When I don't keep complete track of things, I feel like c**p too much of the time. I don't like feeling bad, so I decided that I would keep track, measure, check and inject and stop whining.

So far, so good. I have been a Type 2, insulin dependent diabetic for almost 25 years now, and no serious complications as yet.

In the long run, it is worth it. In the short run, yes, it gets old FAST.

  4. My son has diabetes and sometimes both he and I are tired of the whole routine.  We don't have any special way to deal with the aggravation just keep on doing.  One thing that has made it better for all of us is doing volunteer work for JDRF and my son goes to diabetes camp in the summer.  Meeting and being among others is really helpful and keeps things in perspective.

  5. hello you, yes we all feel that way, alot of the time. 3 things that help

1; we can only really control diabetics 30% of the time, theyve just completed studies on it.

2; there is such thing as "diabetic depression" which you will get only if your diabetic & only from time to time, ( i only get it when my bloods run low for awhile)

3; evey 7 years your insulin regime needs an over hall, your body & life style will have changed somewhat so your insulin needs to be looked at.

because im not working at the moment my insulin intake has nearly halved, odd you think huh, less exercise so would need more insulin but not so = NO STRESS , so less insulin needed

  6. ive had type 1 for 10 years. im 19 years old. i know exactly how you feel. some days i just want to beg one of my friends to stick me while im in the process of doing whatever the heck i want to lol. i hate testing my blood sugar, i rarely write down my sugars and insulin and I'm so tired of taking shots. most days the shots aren't that bad but then there are the days i hit a nerve and want to snap my insulin pen in half. to be honest i don't have any advice for dealing with the burnout phase other than to talk to people who also have type 1 diabetes as a reminder that you really aren't alone. feel free to message me anytime and don't give up! i know it sucks but its a part of life, we have no choice. trust me, we don't. if you give up and get caught you get rushed to the ER, stabilized and then shoved in a loony bin.  I've been there, done that. its not a fun experience

  7. MY Lovely mom has it.. and yes hun its defiently a roller coaster to her .She sometimes feels like you do hun.
