I'm scared I have got diabetes. I get thirsty a lot and im always hungry. I havent noticed peeing a lot, but i'll get a test soon. I feel like...emotionless though. Like I dont care about anything, including getting diabetes.

People say that they get so sad and all that when they got the news about their diabetes, but how bad is it? Is it hard to manage? Please tell me about how you got diagnosed.

I heard that diabebtes itself isnt genetic, but the changes of getting it. no one in my family has it I dont think. I eat lot of suagr (sugar-binge HEAPS on the weekend). Someone on here said that its rare to get diabebtes due to eating lots of sugar...is that true? They said thatits usually cause a family member has it...

how much sugar in a day will usually cause diabetes in the long run?

Im so scared :\

and what is involved for a diabetes test?do i need to fast?

Xx

  1. I had Diabetes for about 2 years.  I did get thirsty alot, BUT I also peed alot.

I went to my GYN due to the fact I was spilling Protein in my urine. It was a 3 hour fasting test.  you dont eat after 9-11 PM depending.  I didnt eat after 10.  Then you go in and drink this...orange soda type drink.  Its not to bad but super sweet.  After an hour they will draw blood and do a sugar test.  Then you go and in me I drank it again.  After anothe hour I had blood drawn again.  I go back and wait one more hour.  they do a final blood draw and then I went back to a room and talked to my GYN.  They will tell you if you have it, what type and how to handle it.  In some cases, you will leave and get a phone call when it comes back (hospitals).

As for Family ties.  My grandma and mom both have or had it.  In all the studies Ive done in my classes, no one has ever told me if its genetic or not. I had one say yes it was and one say no.

For the sugar issue.  Hun you seriously need to cut back lol.  I dont eat sugar as much as I did but I still eat sweets every now and then.  You need to keep your count low or med.  If you get thirsty as much as you say you do, do you get a headache??  I get dehydrated alot and get very thirsty.  Try drinking 34-64 oz of water a day and see if it helps.  Yes its alot but water is good.  Dont forget you can buy sugar free foods.  They are very good depending on the brand.  Also if you are Diabetic go for low carb.  Carbs convert to sugar.  Starches like white potatoes and corn convert to sugar also.

Also, if you email me, there is a website where you can get a free glucose monitor.  No strings attached.  I got 2 and keep them on hand. Your doc will prob ask you to get one or write a prescription for the monitor, the strips and the lancets.  Depending on your insurance, you may not need to pay.

In my world, I had the lap ban in Jan. and have lost 20-25 lbs.  My only problem is that my BS drops during the night and I have to drink OJ in the mornings.

  2. Check your blood sugar.  Diabetes teaches you the importance of eating right.

  3. Yes eating sugar does cause diabetes, I should know I'm on the verge of getting it. I weigh 240 pounds (last I checked it could be more or less now) and I am 13. Try diet and excercising before you get to burn off a few pounds.

  4. My mom was diagnosed when she was 6, but no one else in my family had it before her. My cousin got it after her so I do believe genetics can have something to do with, but not always.

Also, no the sugar thing is a myth. That could be a factor of type 2 but if you are thinking type1 then it's wrong.

If I were you I would just talk to my doctor about it and tell the doctor what you said on here. That wouldn't hurt anything.

    Hope this helped.

  5. Diabetes, BOTH types, is VERY often genetic.  Eating a lot of sugar will not cause you to get diabetes.  It is a problem with the pancreas.  Food is NOT the cause of diabetes, and who ever said that does not have much education on the subject.  Diabetes can develop in those that have perfect diets and exercise all the time.  It does not care how old you are, or who you are, and does not care what you have eaten.  This is one of the old wives tales that people keep hanging on too.  Being overweight does not mean you will develop diabetes either.  Get tested if you are worried.  Here are some of the most common symptoms of BOTH types of diabetes.

    Constant thirst

    Frequent urination

    Constant hunger

    Blurry vision

    Sweet smelling urine

    Leg cramps

    Nausea or vomiting

    Headaches

    Irritability

    Itching skin, but no rash

    Frequent boils

Reoccurring yeast infections in women, itching p***s in men

    Slow healing wounds

Burning tingling sensations in hand, arms, feet, or legs.

    Unexplained weight gain OR loss.
