Activision Blizzard have announced the over 40-million gamers play Call of Duty titles every month and 10-million users have subscribed to Call of Duty Elite. At the same time, Diablo III has broken the company’s pre-order record.
Activision Blizzard are a major force in the video game industry with the best-selling Call of Duty series, World of Warcraft, Starcraft and the upcoming Diablo 3 under their gold and diamond plated belts.
One would think that the bubble would burst at some point; however, it seems that will not be anytime soon as the publisher has announced that over 40-million gamers play Call of Duty games on a monthly basis.
That is not just limited to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but a considerable number of gamers still play Black Ops, Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare, with the interest in World at War dying out.
In fact, Black Ops remains one of the most played games on Xbox LIVE even after a year since its release, and Modern Warfare 2 also gets a decent number of plays as well. It should be noted that the games manage to do with competition from the likes of Halo:
Reach and Gears of War 3.
Another bright bit of news for the publisher is the fact that over 10-million gamers are registered users of the Call of Duty themed social network, Elite. Even more promising for Activision Blizzard is the fact that around 20% (2-million) of those users
are premium subscribers.
With a deep line up of DLC still on its way for the Modern Warfare series, it seems that the revenue the publisher generates from the game is only going to go one way.
On the more fantastical side, Diablo III has set a companywide record for Blizzard in terms of pre-orders. The game is set to release on the 15th of May and gamers seem to be flocking in their thousands in order to reserve themselves a copy of
the upcoming return to the cult classic series.
The level of hype surrounding the game is phenomenal and it will be interesting to see whether or not the game can deliver on the many promises it has been making to gamers.
