Activision has given themselves the second quarter (Q2) of 2012 as their target period to release their long awaited return to the cult classic series.
2011 saw publishers clearing the dust off a number of forgotten series and bringing them back to life in the mainstream market. The rebirth of Deus Ex Human Revolution from publishers Square Enix was a huge success, both financially for the company and critically among fans and gamers alike.
On the other hand, the gaming community also saw the return of one its early icons as the Duke Nukem returned for another outing with Duke Nukem Forever. The game took forever to develop and in the end the results made many people sick.
The game was a broken disaster, and everyone who played the latest instalment in the popular series immediately wished they had not.
It seems that the trend of bringing old series back to life is continuing in 2012 as Activision have finally given everyone a date, or rather a period, in which they can expect their return to the long forgotten series to hit shelves.
The news was shared at the company’s earnings call, and is welcome news for fans of the game that have had to wait patiently for any indication of a release date from the publisher.
Now however, it seems that gamers can expect the game to be released between the months of April and June.
At the same time though, one cannot blame Activision as they did release a beta for players to try the game out and give their feedback on the gameplay mechanics. Apparently the developers took the feedback very seriously and have made a number of changes to the game.
“After receiving feedback from the community and our internal teams, we’ve implemented changes to the game which we believe will greatly improve the game experience and ensure that the final release will live up to our high expectations.”
Activision have not specified exactly what those changes are and it seems that gamers will have to wait until the second quarter of this year to find out when the game is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3 and PCs.
