The developers and publishers of the Diablo series claim that their latest game will bring “a great experience” to consoles, despite the game having been a PC exclusive up to this point.
Diablo captivated gamers in 1996, which is the year it was released, and its sequel, Diablo 2, exceeded fans’ expectations when it was released four years later in 2000. However, it has been 12 years since then that the world has had to do without a Diablo
game, yet in a few months time that is about to change.
Diablo 3 is only a few weeks away from its eagerly anticipated release and there is plenty of attention being given to the fact that the game will be available on consoles as well. The reason for that is down to the fact that the original Diablo games were
both PC exclusives and thus, the game’s fan base consists of PC gamers.
However, Paul Sams, Blizzard’s COO, believes that the studio will provide an authentic experience for gamers on both PC and consoles. He said, “We’re continuing to explore (Diablo 3 on consoles). We think that the way we built it for PC may need some tweaking,
but it will ultimately be the type of game that can really make sense and be really fun, well polished and a true Blizzard-level experience on a console.”
Sams also explained that the studio did worry as much about business models and how that influenced whether or not the game would be released on consoles, but rather that Blizzard focused on the gameplay.
“Those (business models) are secondary to what’s the most important aspect for us which is the gameplay.” He said, before adding, “We have to make sure the game is great and it’s something that everyone wants to play. If we provide a great game, a great
experience, the business model – if we’re being fair with you – will work.”
It sounds as if Blizzard is confident of Diablo 3 being a success on both PC and consoles and seeing how Diablo fans probably have families by now, we would not be surprised if the console copies of the game were to sell well.
