Diablo III Team Deathmatch shelved, PvP duelling option coming with next patch
Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo III Team Deathmatch mode has been shelved, while the PvP duelling option will be arriving with the next patch.
The game’s director Jay Wilson conceded in a new blog post that the Team Deathmatch mode was not quite where the company wanted it to be in terms of quality and entertainment.
Players who were appointed to test the game did not give a very encouraging feedback, making it quite evident to Blizzard that the experience was nowhere close to their expectations.
Wilson revealed that the feedback received from the testers pointed out a couple of issues, which was keeping the Team Deathmatch mode from being great.
The first of these issues was the lack of depth in the mode, which made the game become old and lost its attraction very quickly.
"Simply fighting each other with no other objectives or choices to make gets old relatively quickly," Wilson said. "We've brought a lot of people in to try out Team Deathmatch and, while some found it entertaining, most of our testers didn't feel like it
was something they'd want to do beyond a few hours. Without more varied objectives, or very lucrative rewards, few saw our current iteration as something they'd want spend a lot of time in."
Another issue that the company noticed about the mode was that of class balance. The company realised that a lot of alterations needed to be made to the skills, items and runes in order to balance the characters and make them suitable for a team versus team
setting.
Not too keen to make these significant changes, Blizzard decided to put a lid on the project for now.
While Diablo III Team Deathmatch mode has been shelved, the company is all set to bring the PvP duelling option to the game, though players will have to wait for the patch to arrive before they can start testing the might of their character against another
human player.
Launched in May earlier this year, Diablo III sold 3.5 million copies within the first 24 hours. The player base for the game has already surpassed 10 million users.
