My psychiatrist upped my dosage to Lexapro 20mg for my PTSD/Major Depression. Yet to see results after three weeks b/c my gyno prescribed me 10mg which is too low for my level of depression. (I wanted to get onto an antidepressant as soon as possible and my psych had a three week wait. However, I've been seeing a LISW for 3 weeks until my psych appt today. I was able to get my gyno to also prescribe Ambien CR 12.5mg for sleep, however it did nothing for me. Usually this knocks me out in 30 min, but I was definitely in a different state of mind then when I took it about a year ago. Talked to psych about this and she recommended a combination of Ambien CR 12.5mg and Trazodone 100mg for sleep. I can't find any info on the net about the outcomes/experiences of the mixture of these two sleep medications. Has anyone been prescribed this mixture? How well did it work?

Btw, I do know that Trazodone is also an antidepressant but works better for insomnia than as an antidepressant.

  1. Everyone reacts differently to medicine, so it will all depend on you. What works for one person might not work for another and vice versa.

Your therapist would not prescribe anything but the best for you.

Here is a written account from someone who found a natural cure for PTSD:

  2. I know several people who take trazedone for sleep.  There only complaint is that it leaves them drozy the next day.  I do not know anyone who has combined the two medications and from what I know of the trazedone, taking both would not be necessary.   Still, it sounds as if your psychiatrist understands your situation and would not have recommended it if they thought it was in anyway detrimental to you.
