Dialed In returns to training for Nicholas Zito after a lengthy layoff
The 3-year-old Nicholas Zito trained colt, Dialed In, returned to the worktab after an extended absence from the races. The Kentucky bred is just back and no specific plans for him are declared by his trainer, but Zito hinted that the colt will return to actual racing in the latter half of the Gulfstream Park meet.
As he nears the 2012 season, Robert V, LaPenta owned 3-year-old colt, Dialed In, turned in a 3 furlong workout, actually firing a 3 furlong bullet to cover the distance in 36 seconds flat, at Palm Meadows, on 13 December, 2011.
The last time the son of Mineshaft, out of mare Miss Doolittle by Storm Cat, was at the worktab, was back in June at Saratoga, where he turned in a nice drill when he went an easy half a mile.
In the summer of 2011, Dialed In appeared to be a little off training and the vets diagnosed a chip in his right knee which kept him out of action for all this time.
He had surgery for that in late June, and the 3-year-old colt had been taking it easy ever since. Dialed In, in his 2011 season as a sophomore landed the first race he participated in, the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes.
The race was run over a distance of a mile at Gulfstream Park on 30 January, 2011, on dirt, where he topped the mile distance in 1 minute and 35.19 seconds.
He then came out as a runner up in an allowance test at Gulfstream Park to start next in the all important Grade 1 Florida Derby, where he edged out to win over Shackleford by a neck over at 1 1/8 miles on 3 April, 2011.
He covered the distance in 1 minute and 50.07 seconds as To Honor and Serve finished third on the day. After his thrilling win over Shackleford, Dialed In moved out of Florida to participate in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby and endured a tough run in a bulky field of 19.
He finished eighth to winner Animal Kingdom. Same was the case in the Preakness Stakes, where he finished fourth to Shackleford.
