Diamond Crash wins the Owners Bonus Series Heat 1 at Henlow
Diamond Crash carried the day at Henlow racing track on January 27 by beating Havana Hunter, the most favourite hound of the Owners Bonus Series Heat 1. It was a Grade A6 race of 460m category.
The other four competitors were Newbee Thunder, Cabenco, Scrumpy Nigel and Drovers Damsel.
This victory was a huge upset in the thrill-packed race, as Diamond Crash had to apply sheer force to wrest the victory from Havana Hunter with a slight margin of just 0.3 seconds.
There was a fierce competition between, Diamond Crash and Havana Hunter throughout the race, as the duo ran parallel for most of the time. On some nail-biting junctures, it had become hard to judge that which of the two would get a breakthrough, but
Diamond Crash finally did the job.
It was S E Gilliland trainee’s second victory after June 24, 2011. The dog experienced a long lean patch ,but ultimately succeeded in regaining his form.
This triumph was unbelievable for even the trainer, who seemed somewhat disappointed with his trainee’s past performances before the start of yesterday’s event.
After breaking from trap 1 at 20:45, the son of Crash and Compass Becky took 28.79 seconds to reach the finish line. In the beginning, the brindle dog was slow however, he lifted his pace in the middle and took the lead.
Havana Hunter did not let the front runner go unchallenged, but kept disturbing him till the end. Just a few yards before the boundary strap, the two were side by side. Finally, Diamond Crash managed to finish first, after a fabulous run.
Despite being the hot favourite hound with the 2 to 1 starting price, Havana Hunter failed to finish on top. The black dog broke from trap 4, and completed the distance in 28.82 seconds. The son of Brett Lee is trained by W T Adams.
The third position went to Newbee Thunder, who trailed by 1 ¾ lengths. Trained by R W Athow, the black b***h broke from trap 3.
During the post-race presentation ceremony, Diamond Crash walked away with £50, while the second position holder got £17. Each of the other four hounds earned £10.
