Diamond trading question

Question

Considering how cheap you can buy diamonds in India, why aren't more people diamond trading?

Just an honest question.

The mark-ups for similar grades in Europe and the US are phenomenal.

Well for one thing, diamonds are a very specialized field requiring a great deal of expertise.  How does the average joe sixpack know what is a good diamond & which one is c**p, or even a zircon??

Why are the dealers in Europe or American going to buy my diamonds??  I imagine they already have their existing suppliers.  I don't know why they would buy my mediocre diamonds.  

Anyone that goes into an investment without knowledge of that investment, is 'going to be taken for a ride'.
