Diamondbacks Special - Arizona Diamondbacks: Looking for more success
During the 2011 Major League Baseball regular season, the Arizona Diamondbacks managed to come on strong and make into the playoffs. The team dominated the National League West Division as they finished with a tremendous win-loss record of 94-68 ahead of
the mighty San Francisco Giants.
Competing against teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres is not a walk in the park. However, the Diamondbacks had a tremendous season, as their team effort sparked. Although the Diamondbacks were trailing
the Giants up to the All-Star break, the team accelerated and made a strong push towards the end of the season.
For the Diamondbacks, their true achievement was making it to the National League Division Series (NLDS), where unfortunately they lost 2-3 to the Milwaukee Brewers. The loss was hard to take for many of the players and of course the fans. After having such
a tremendous regular season, losing to the Brewers was a painful experience for the Diamondbacks.
As Spring Training is about to begin, the Diamondbacks are looking very confident. The team is looking to continue from where they left off last season. The desire to make it to the playoffs and this time to keep going even further is what the team is desperate
for this year. The squad understands the importance of working hard during the training sessions to prepare for the arduous 2012 MLB regular season.
There is no doubt that the Diamondbacks have many talented players. The team’s pitching, which has the likes of Joe Saunders, Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson is the main backbone for the team. Arizona’s strength sits with the tremendous depth that they possess
in their rotation as they recently added pitchers Craig Breslow, Trevor Cahill and Takashi Saito. The overall balance of the team is what others envy in the League. The Diamondbacks have the unique ability to put on a surge late in the regular season to secure
a playoff spot.
This year, the Diamondbacks will be hoping they can become more competitive in the playoffs. Their 2-3 loss to the Brewers in the NLDS seems to have increased the team’s desire to go further in the postseason. Playing during the regular season is quite different
to competing in the playoffs, something the Diamondbacks realised a little late during the 2011 NLDS.
Most baseball pundits agree that the Diamondbacks are a very strong team this year. They have a very good chance to dominate once again in the NL West Division. The Dodgers are distracted, as the Giants, Rockies and Padres are not taking on big name players
with hefty contracts. The Diamondbacks will be looking to return to their winning ways and stay at the top of the table as they make their way through the regular season.
The fans will be hoping the Diamondbacks can repeat their good performance from the 2011 regular season and go all the way to the World Series. They have the talent and the temperament to go far this year and it all comes down to how bad they want it. Losing
early in the playoffs last year only increased their desire to win. It will be interesting to see how well the Diamondbacks perform during Spring Training, as some of the other top tier teams in the League might have some different plans for the team.
