Diamondbacks and White Sox to play benefit game in Tucson to remember Christina Taylor Green
Life can be harsh for many parents who lose their child at a young age. For Los Angeles Dodgers’ scout, John Green, the loss is unexplainable. After less than two months of the tragic incident that took away his daughter, Christina Taylor Green’s life, and put Democratic Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, in intensive care, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago White Sox are scheduled to face each other in their former Spring Training camp venue. Tucson, Arizona, has been the attention of the media for the wrong reasons in the recent months. Many will hope that bad image will disappear soon.
The incident that took away Christina’s life will be forever remembered by her father, John Green, who has opened a trust fund in her name. The daughter who lost her life in a shooting spree will be the core figure in remembrance when the White Sox take on the D-Backs in Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium. The two clubs used to call Tucson their main venue for Spring Training Camp.
The White Sox however moved away to Glendale, while the D-Backs moved to their new outfit in Salt River Fields in Scottsdale. The two sides will now return to play the fund raising game for Christina in Tucson.  Arizona’s manager, Kirk Gibson, had an opportunity to reflect on the event and the consequence of the incident that took place a few months ago.
"It doesn't make the situation better, but hopefully it will help them move on. We're going to do two of those benefit games, and that's just part of who we are as an organization. None of us can understand it at all: why it happened or how the people feel, the victims or the community. But we'll go down there and get a better understanding of it."
Ozzie Guillen, who will be skippering the White Sox in the game, also had a few words to share on the incident.
"A very sad moment we went through a few months ago, but it's very important for me and our players to go there and be a part of that," Guillen said. "I love Tucson and everyone knows that. Great town and I had a great time there. I have a lot of respect for people there."
The scheduled games are expected to draw a large number of people from the area.
