Diana Luna, Christel Boeljon and Stefania Croce in contention in second round of Turkish Airlines Ladies Open
Diana Luna and Christel Boeljon have worked their way steadily to share the lead with the overnight leader Stefania Croce in the second round of Turkish Airlines Ladies Open being played at National Golf Club Antalya.
The second round proceedings were interrupted at the end of the day as the rain and thunderstorm hampered the play and rest of the day had to be called off.
Italian Luna scored a three-under, 70 to join Croce at the top and her round included four birdies and a bogey at the eighth. She now has an aggregate of two-under. Luna has won thrice on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and was quite pleased with the second
round's outcome.
“I’m delighted with my position and minus three is good, especially on this course,” Luna said. “Yesterday I fired the first six holes and then I was going a little bit down and lost my focus for a while. Today I managed to stay focused.”
Netherlands’ Boeljon, who is also last year’s runners up of the event, scored two-under, 71 with five birdies to move into contention for the top slot. Boeljon won the European Nations Cup in the team event but she is still anticipating a victory on the
LET. The young golfer insists that the difficult layout of the National Golf Club perfectly matches her game.
“I love a course to demand you to be good all round: the long game, the short game, the putting. I wish we could play here every week,” she said.
Italian Croce did not fare well in the second round and stumbled on multiple bogeys to finish one-over. She only managed to pull in two birdies only to lose them later with a bogey and then a double bogey. Croce turned professional in 1989 and won the 1992
Ford Classic Championship. She is one of the experienced contenders in the field one who surely has the capability to lift the title.
Last year’s defending champion, Melissa Reid has swiftly moved up the ranks and is tied for the fifth place along with Australian Sarah Kemp, Gwladys Nocera of France, Swede Pernilla Lindberg, and Klara Spilkova of Croatia. They had to abandon the day’s
proceedings on the 15th hole as the round was called off by the organizers.
