Diana Luna, Lee-Anne Pace, Stacey Keating tied at the 44th place
The first round of the Ladies' Irish Open is over and many favourites ended up in the latter half of the leaderboard. Three names, Diana Luna, Lee-Anne Pace, and Stacey Keating particularly stand out as the players who fail to live up to the fans’ expectations.
Lee-Anne Pace is well known for her golf skills and is usually considered to be a competent player. Her recent performance in various events prompted many fans to expect a stellar performance in the Ladies' Irish Open.
Pace began the first round with a birdie on the second hole. This was an encouraging sign and many observers predicted that this has set the tone of the rest of the round. Unfortunately this was not the case.
Pace dropped bogeys on the next three holes. These bogeys at holes 3, 4 and 5 proved disastrous for Pace. She recovered her form and shot a birdie on the 5th hole.
The back nine was a similar story. Pace scored a birdie on the 11th hole and then went on to hit a bogey on the 13th hole. She ended the round with a double bogey on the 16th hole.
For Diana Luna, the first round was a mixed bag of birdies and bogeys. She started the round with a bogey on the very first hole. This was followed by a birdie at the second hole. A bogey at the third hole brought her back to where she started.
She then moved on to the fifth hole where she scored a birdie. On the sixth hole she dropped a double bogey. The seventh hole saw her shooting an eagle, which was followed by two bogeys at holes 8 and 9. She scored another bogey on the 10th hole
and finished the round at 75.
Stacey Keating also scored 75 points. She started the round with two birdies on holes 1 and 2. This great performance was soon followed by two bogeys on the fourth and fifth hole.
She moved in back and promptly scored five bogeys on holes 10, 11, 14, 15 and 17. Like the front nine, she shot two birdies on holes 16 and 18.
These three players have shown great potential in the past events. They still have three more rounds to recover their form and play a great game.
