Diana Luna can rattle rivals in India
Italian Diana Luna may not have pulled off a top-placed finish in the 2012 current season, but her presence at the upcoming Hero Women’s Indian Open is going to keep the contenders in trouble.
Luna is one of the strongest contenders at the three-day LET (Ladies European Tour) event, slated to be played from November 30th to December 2nd, at DLF Golf & Country
Club, New Delhi, India.
While it makes sense to single out the Italian star as a hot favourite for the tournament, the participation of giants like Spanish Carlota Ciganda, Laura Davies and Carly Booth of Scotland
makes the odds look unrealistic a little.
Having failed to win any tournament in the current season, Luna is currently standing at the seventh position at the ISPS Handa Order of Merit.
It is impossible for the rising star to beat Ciganda who has cemented her first position on the money list, but a strong finish in India and the final tournament of the season can add to her
overall stats.
Although winless all season so far, Luna has performed well in some of the tournaments. She displayed a stunning performance at the Gold Coast Australian Ladies Masters as she finished second
by shooting an overall 268.
The Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters 2012 saw her in good shape as she finished second in the three-day event. She shot a 69 each in the second and third round, posting a total of 208 on
the leaderboard.
The 2011 season went better than expectations, as Luna racked up two titles. She won the Unicredit Ladies German Open and Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open.
She had shared her thoughts at the end of Swiss Open, saying she was working really hard to improve her game. She said that despite being a mother, she did not stop pursuing her career in
professional golf, which kept her confidence high.
“I’ve been working very hard since the birth of Elena. It was of course hard to get back to form but I think I just got one step forward compared to before,” Luna had said.
“I’m feeling stronger now and it’s amazing what being a mum can do. Once you’re a mum, you know that golf is like, okay. It’s just golf. You take things more easily, even though I still work
very, very hard, even harder than before”.
