Diana Luna lands second place in Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters
Diana Luna finished after England’s Melissa Reid, with a total score of 208. The breakup was impressive with a consistent performance in the second and the third round.
This is exactly the performance the fans and commentators were expecting from Italy’s leading female golfer. Luna finished the first round with 70.
She improved the score marginally in the subsequent second and third round. She scored 69 in both the rounds. Her overall score included eleven birdies and three bogeys.
The third round of Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters was really between Melissa Reid and Diana Luna. In the beginning, it appeared that Stefania Croce, also from Italy, would give both, Luna and Reid, a though time.
However, she lost in the race and when the extremely tense moments of the round began. Also included in the rankings were: Rachel Bailey from Australia, Rebecca Hudson from England and Stacey Keating, also from Australia.
The action really began on the 14th hole. Reid missed a putt and gave Luna a one stroke lead. Luna was at nine-under par at that time. With just four holes to go, the match between Luna and Reid was as tough as it could get.
On the 16th hole, Reid got her chance. Luna long ranged for three putts, which cost her the lead and tied the contestants. Reid took full advantage of this and moved aggressively to the 17th hole.
Reid scored a birdie on the 17th hole. This is admittedly the most difficult hole of the course. As Reid put it, “I would say it’s the toughest hole on the golf course and I hadn’t really been committing that much all the way round”.
From then onwards, Diana Luna was clear that she would come out second best in the contest. It might appear that these two were alone on the green. However, this was not the case.
Rachel Bailey from Australia put up a tough fight but by the 16th hole, it was clear that the race for the cup was really between Diana Luna and Melissa Reid.
Diana Luna is already a recipient of ‘Athlete of the Year 2011’ from the city of Rome. This award really means a great deal to the golfer who hails from Rome.
