Diana Luna speaks her mind, ready to defend title at Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012
Italian Diana Luna is more than thrilled about facing rivals at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012, slated to be held from June 14-17, at Golf Gerre Losone, Switzerland, as she vowed to defend her title this year.
Speaking to the media about her stunning career, Luna said that she has been playing golf since she was just 12 years old. She said she is happy with what she has gained over the years, but is still seeking to grab the top spot in the world rankings.
“My parents used to play and so they were used to bringing me to the golf course every weekend. When I was about 12 years old I decided to start playing,” the Italian star shared.
Recounting her first victory that she grabbed in 2004, at Tenerife Ladies Open, Luna said that she still draws inspiration from that success and this is what has kept her going in professional golf.
“You just go by steps. The first win was very important but of course you need to improve and to get better so you need to make some changes,” she said.
The 29-year-old golfer said that winning is very important in pro career, as it keeps the momentum going. She pointed out that ever since she became immersed in the sport, her life has changed.
“I also made some changes in my life because I got married in 2005, so I moved house and I was struggling a little bit in the beginning with the new life, even though it was of course a better life. It just takes time to get used to it”.
The golfing sensation admitted that due to a hectic routine and personal life, she sometimes finds it hard to stay focused on the sport. Married life, Luna shared, brings plenty of responsibilities, but managing two things at a time is a great learning process.
When asked how hard it has become to pursue her career due to her 2-year-old daughter, Elena, the Italian prodigy said that she is taking her training more seriously.
She pointed out that it was a little hard for her to focus on her practice at the time of her daughter’s birth, but she has been lucky enough to be back in her old form.
