Diana Luna wins 54-hole Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open
Italian ace, Diana Luna smashed a score of five-under par 67 in the final round of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open, to claim her second victory in June. The Ladies European Tour (LET) event took place at the Golf Gerre Losone.
Luna took advantage of the Sunday’s sun and managed to add a low number to her scorecard. She teed-off from the front and reeled two birdies that set her pace for the day. Leaving rest of the holes for par, the winner marched towards
the back nine and clawed four more birdies to lift the trophy.
The only flaw in her day's play was witnessed at the par-4 14th, when the player tried to dodge the wind and smashed a drive into the right rough. The ball, stuck in the long shrubs, took two strokes to make it to the
green, which eventually led to a bogey.
The best from Luna was seen on the closing hole, when the Italian plunged the entire fairway with the help of a driver to ace the par-5 green. Unfortunately, the player missed the cup, while approaching it with a 5-wood for an
eagle and settled for a birdie.
“I feel very emotional at this moment because I wasn’t expecting it,” Luna said. “In the middle of the nine I wasn’t playing great and I made a few bad shots. I really managed to stick together and keep going despite being very
happy and tired. I have been working on my mind the last few years. I think the results are here and I really thank you, Vicky Aitkin, for this and my coach, Roger Damiano and my husband as well who is very, very supportive.”
This is Luna’s fifth-career win on the European Tour, which has moved her to the fifth place in the Rolex Rankings.
In addition to that, Luna is now eligible to compete in the Solheim Cup and was very excited knowing she made it to the competition. The number one seed on the LET’s Henderson Money List will fly to France to celebrate the victory
with her husband.
