I have 3 weeks old baby. Recently we got diaper rashes, the red skin in the poo going area. He cries and gets irritated while going to poo. I don't know how to call it since its our first experience. Can you please tell me how to heal this ? Thanks in advance.

  1. If your baby has had an irritated bottom for awhile, the diapers you use may be breaking him out. You should try a different brand of diapers. You can also try bag balm, desitin, butt paste are just a few things to help with diaper rash.

  2. When you change him, wash his bottom with a clean, warm washcloth instead of baby wipes.  My fourth had this at 3 weeks which is earlier than I've ever seen.  I would wipe him with the washcloth (messy, but that's what washers are for, lol), then soak a cottonball in Witch Hazel (astringent for skin irritation) and dab it on the area.  Pat it dry, then sprinkle cornstarch on it.  It sounds absolutely nuts, I know.  But the irritation went away after 3 diaper changes.

  3. Diaper Rashes are caused by either burny-poo or having that area moist.

perhaps the area is left moist after using a baby wipe? if so, sprinkle with some cornflour/cornstarch after using a baby wipe each time. This will dry the area and avoid rash.

the best thing for helping rashes is exposure to air! lay down some cloth diapers or some sort of material you don't mind if he poo's or wee's on. and let him lay down naked for a while. Doing this in a sunbeam is best. The air will help heal the redness and babies just loooove being nakey!

  4. there are brillant creams at the pharmacy that will clear it up very quick. Just talk to your pharmisist.  You may also want to start using an anti rash talcom powder or vaselien after nappy changes to prevent it.  the powder helps dry him in the same way that alot of the above people mentioned

  5. The cream that worked best on my baby was Aquaphor. It was very gentle. Make sure you are changing his diaper often, and use the cream, it will help. Good luck and congratulations!
