Question:

Diapers for infants that sleep on their tummies? Other solutions?

My 4-month-old daughter keeps rolling over, and prefers to sleep on her stomach. However, her diapers leak up onto her stomach (and onto her bed) when she does this.

Any suggestions? She wears Huggies. Is there another brand that is more absorbent in the front? I can't keep her from rolling over. We put those cylindrical thingies on each side, and she still wiggles enough to go face-down within 5 minutes.

Thank you!

  1. put the diaper on backwards

  2. Either try a larger size or pull the diaper further up in the front than the back. Does she wake in the middle of the night? I know it's an obvious solution, but make sure you change her then if she does.

  3. Try putting the diapers on backwards. They will rise higher on her belly and absorb more.

If she's strong enough to turn over, she's strong enough to lift and shift her head. Check with your pediatrician, but I'll bet she's probably safe to sleep on her belly. Just remember use sleeper PJs instead of blankets, and no pillows, bumperpads, or mattress pads.

  4. we use huggies overnights and they are great. they have a lot more absorbancy. i dont know how small they make them though,we use a size 3.

  5. I know this sounds strange but try putting a maxi pad in her diaper at night. It may give her the extra absorption she needs.

  6. Put the diaper backwards or try going up 1 size for naps and nighttime.

  7. In my experience, with my 7 month old I`ve tried pampers and huggies and everything, and the ones that I found were better were the no name brand. In canada some are called Truly and trust me, my daughter now eats all kinds of foods and the diaper has never leaked. Not all the times the well known brands are the best, usually the only good thing they have is good marketing.

    Good Luck.

  8. I was having the same issue with my 4month old. We were using Pampers, I agree with the off brand suggestion. We tryed the Luvs and haven't had a leak yet. You can also put a diaper liner in and it will be extra absorbent. I have also been putting them a little higher in the front also. Good luck, it seems to be trial and error with every baby. My 2 year old never had this problem. Good luck.

  9. I was reading a parenting magazine, and a tip for this was to use a maxi pad at the stomach where you fasten the diaper.  The pad will absord all the extra liquid.

  10. My kids used to do this, of course their bedding was soaked in the morning.  I started putting a cloth diaper inside of the Huggies before bed...when I had my last baby I found diaper liners at 'Toy R Us', they worked very well

  11. We also have washable lap pads to put under our baby.  Got ours at Target

  12. First of all you should take the sleep positioner out of the bed (the cylindrical things). It's against SIDS precautions because they can end up with their face rght up against the side. Plus once they are able to roll on their own you are supposed to let them roll.

As for the diaper leaking they sell inserts at BabiesRus for just that reason. They are in the diaper section...called Diaper Doublers. They look kind of like pads and you just stick them in the diaper for extra absorbancy during the night.  You might want to put it towards the front in this case.

    Hope that helps!
