Question:

Diarrhea while traveling...how to prevent it?

Hi. I've noticed that when I travel abroad, I get a case of diarrhea. This isn't due to eating anything in particular, because as soon as I board the bus in my hometown and head the airport, it generally starts. I believe it's some form of nervous stomach. Does anyone know how I can prevent this? I am traveling from the U.S. to Australia in just a few days and i'm worried about this happening!!! I want to prevent it BEFORE it happens! All I can think of is to take Immodium A.D. before I board the bus...but is this logical? And what are some good suggestions on tummy-friendly foods while traveling?

  1. Take Imodium or Imodium Advance. That stuff works great. It's fine to take and if it takes care of the problem, it takes care of the problem. Definitely mention something to your doctor about it. He will have the best suggestions.

I find ice cream to be soothing sometimes. Don't drink a lot of pop or anything spicy/greasy/heavy or that you have found gives you gas.

Good luck and have fun on your trip!!

  2. Taking Immodium should not hurt and it would be a good idea to keep some with you while travelling.  Try to stay away from foods that could potentially upset your stomach like greasy foods, spicy foods, and some milk products. It would probably be better to eat more sturdier foods like salad and veggies before boarding the plane. I was going to mention to call your Dr.  but since you are already going for a check-up definately mention this to her and she should be able to offer you some suggestions for medication and what to eat.  Drink water....but always be careful drinking water overseas.

  3. Sometimes when I eat foods from different regions, my stomach gets upset too. I'd hydrate alot, and try to eat non fatty foods.  Fruits and fibers tend to make you go alot tho, it depends on what you eat and when.

  4. Try looking out the window and don't hunch down in a seat.

Mention this to your doctor and she'll do what ever she thinks is best.  Don't think about the pills part until u go 2 the doctor.

  5. i agree

    take IMMODIUM.

also have more FIBER in your diet.

    that should help you.

  6. Immodium always works for me,but ask your doctor

  7. The best is to eat a lot of yogurts (the ones with good bacterias such as acidophilus) or take yogurt pills.  All other dairy's should be avoided.

The food that helps are rice, bananas, apple (without the peel), chicken soup and tea.  Avoid coffee, acid and spicy soup and crude food.  And try to relax and to sleep.

Yes, it could be a good idea to talk about it with your doctor.
